Weekly Base Bulletin

Pre-Retirement Planning for DoD Civilians

Tuesday, 14 September and Wednesday, 15 September, Mr. Jack Conroy, a
leading expert in civilian retirement planning, will be at our facility to
guide GS employees through the arduous process of benefits, options, and
uncertainties of civilian retirement. Some of the items he will cover are as
follows: Five-Year Retirement Plan and What does it include? CSRS and/or
FERS Retirements Types of annuities and retirement eligibility for CSRS and
FERS Computing annuity estimates-CSRS, FERS, LE/FF/ATC What does creditable
service include? Should I buy my military service time? Should I pay a
deposit or redeposit for former service? What is, and is not, included in
the HIGH-3 computation? Federal Insurances in Retirement: Health Benefits
(FEHB), Long Term Care (FLTCP), Life Insurance (FEGLI), and Medicare Thrift
Savings Plan and financial planning: Do it yourself, or use a professional?
You need to sign up for this two-day workshop. Time is 0800-1630 both days.

Deployed Spouses Lunch & Meeting

Deployed Spouses, after much discussion the Airman and Family Readiness
Center staff has come up with a plan to get spouses together for a luncheon
and quick discussion to see what’s going on in the life of a deployed
spouse. Bring your questions, concerns, ideals, and we’ll provide the rest!
Please RSVP by 17 Sep if you can make it. Lunch is on us! Date - 23 Sep
2010; Time - 10am until we’re done, promise not to keep anyone after 12pm;
Location - Schriever Base Housing Community Center.

Need a listening ear?

The Military and Family Life Consultant is here to listen and address
marriage and relationship issues, parenting, sibling and family issues,
communication challenges, stress and anxiety, grief and loss, and daily life
issues. The MFLC is available every day, 0730-1630, at the Airman & Family
Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65. This consultant is also available at the
chaplain’s office Monday and Wednesday, 1130-1300. At either location,
drop-in appointments are available or you can schedule a time by calling the
MLFC directly at 651-3379.

Pre-separation Counseling Briefing

The Pre-separation Counseling briefing is the first step to separating or
retiring from the military. This briefing is mandatory and a prerequisite to
all other transition-related briefings such as TAP. During this briefing you
will learn about all the benefits and services available to you when you
leave the military. Documentation of this briefing is accomplished through
the completion of the DD Form 2648. If you are a year from separation or two
years from retirement, start the transition process now. The class is
Tuesday, 21 Sep, 1400 at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65.

Sponsor Training Class

Make the arrival of personnel to Schriever a positive experience by
attending sponsorship training. Training is mandatory for newly assigned
sponsors. Training highlights responsibilities, local on and off base
resources, and the effects sponsorship has on the mission. The class is
Tuesday, Sep 21, 8:00 am at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg.
T-65.

Medical Records Review for VA Disability Claim Brief

If you are 180 days from separation or retirement, now is the time to start
your disability claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The
initial medical records review will be provided by the Disabled American
Veterans. If you are leaving the military and have service related medical
issues, it would be in your best interest to start the process for a
disability claim. Depending on the extent of your disability, you may be
eligible for monthly monetary compensation, veteran’s preference into
federal service, and many other benefits depending on the state you decide
to settle in. The records reviews are by appointment only, so call early.
The hour-long brief is Monday, Sep 20, beginning at 8:00 am at the Airman &
Family Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

Safe Kids 101 Class

This “home alone” class helps to prepare kids to stay safe at home and in
the community. The class will be held Friday, Sep 24, 1:00-4:30 pm at the
Airman & Family Readiness Center. Children must be 9-14 years of age to
attend.

Resumé Basics Class

This class is for the person who has never done a resumé, or is seeking
confirmation that what they have is on the right track. Held every other
month, the new format for Resumé Basics includes not only information on
format, appropriate content, and how to use the resumé, but actual input
from a local employer who reads resumés on a daily basis. The class is
Wednesday, Sep 22, 9:00 am at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg.

Dorm Move Class

This class is geared toward all Airmen anticipating a move out of the dorms
within three months. Participants learn how to identify how much money is
needed to afford to live off base, project a budget based on monthly
expenditures, and decide if they are financially fit to move out of the
dorms. The class is Tuesday, Sep 21, 3:00 pm at the Airman & Family
Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65.

4 Mile Fun Run

23 Sep – 4 Mile Fun Run will start near the ¼ mile running track and will
take participants along the base perimeter across Enoch Rd to Blue Rd and
back. The run will start promptly at 1500.

Schriever 1/2 Marathon

1 Oct – ½ Marathon starts at 0900 near the ¼ mile running track. The run

Schriever Mountain Bicycle Race

8 Oct – Mountain Bicycle Race. Participants will ride twice around base
perimeter (approximately 12 miles each lap). Participants can sign up
individually or form teams of two. The ride will take place around the base

Patriot Season Ski Pass

Patriot Pass and Patriot Pass Plus now available at ITT for active duty
only. Patriot Pass is a season ski pass to Winter Park and Copper Mountain.
Patriot Pass Plus is a season ski pass to Winter Park and Copper Mountain
with an additional 6 days to Steamboat. Prices are Patriot Pass adult
$229.00, Patriot Pass Plus adult $239.00. Patriot Pass child (age6-13)
$114.00, Patriot Pass Plus child $124.00.

AF Birthday/Silver Anniversary Ceremony

Special ceremony and cake cutting honoring the AF Birthday and Silver
Anniversary of Schriever AFB will be held in the Satellite Dish Dining
Facility on 17 Sep/1130 hrs. The Dish menu includes Grilled Steak, Herb
Lemon Baked Fish and Orange Glazed Chicken.

Rocky Mountain Softball Challenge

A softball team from Schriever will be playing in the Rocky Mountain
Softball Challenge this Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Peterson softball complex.
The tournament will have one team from Peterson AFB, Schriever AFB, Buckley
AFB, Air Force Academy and Fort Carson and is one day only. Come out and
support the Schriever team.

Basketball Court Closed - 30 Sep 10

The basketball court will be closed from 0700 to 1200 in support of the CFC

Liberty Season Ski Pass

Liberty Pass now available at ITT. Liberty Pass is a season ski pass to
Keystone and A-basin (active duty only). Prices are $195.00 adult, and

Spending only $150 a month to feed a family of four? Don't think this is
possible? Think again! This class will provide all the tools and websites
you need to know to make couponing a part of your everyday life. Coupon
University will be offered for the first time at the Airman & Family
Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65, Thursday, 16 September at noon.

Special Needs Information Fair

If you or someone you know has a family member with special needs, this
event is especially for you. Saturday, 18 September, 1000-1400, we will
gather at the Youth Center/Patriot Park at Peterson AFB. With 30+ local
agencies providing information and fun, we will have bouncy castles,
representatives from the Special Olympics, craft and music activities, and
snacks. This special event is sponsored by the Air Force Aid Society and the
Airman & Family Readiness Centers at Schriever AFB and Peterson AFB.
