FSS Gift Card provides 20% off

Did you recently move into Schriever Base Housing? Are you deploying, or has your spouse deployed? Have you been recently assigned to Schriever? You may be eligible for the AFSPC FSS Gift Card! The FSS Gift Card entitles you to 20% off select Force Support services and programs such as the purchase of tickets to local attractions at ITT, enrollment in certain youth programs, and custom picture framing. In addition, the card can be used for a range of FSS recreational and dining opportunities at any AFSPC base. Call the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 567-7340 to find out how to obtain the card.

Pre-separation Counseling Briefing
The Pre-separation Counseling briefing is the first step to separating or retiring from the military. This briefing is mandatory and a prerequisite to all other transition-related briefings such as TAP. During this one-hour briefing you will learn about all the benefits and services available to you when you leave the military. Documentation of this briefing is accomplished through the completion of the DD Form 2648. If you are a year from separation or two years from retirement, start the transition process now. The class is every Tuesday, 2 pm at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65.

Base Picnic POC Meeting: 29 June 2010
The next POC meeting to discuss final arrangements for the 16 July Base Picnic will take place on 29 Jun 10, 1400 in Bldg 210, Rm 366. Request all POCs bring their table and power requirements to ensure all needs can be met.

Summer 2011 AFROTC Detachment Commander Assignment Opportunities for Lieutenant Colonels and Lieutenant Colonel Selects
Headquarters AETC announces projected vacancies and application procedures for summer 2011 Air Force Reserve officers' Training Corps (AFROTC) detachment commander positions. officers may request consideration for AFROTC detachment commander opportunities by completing the Statement of Intent (SOI) and forwarding it through their senior rater to AFPC. It is mandatory to submit an SOI via the Airmen Development Plan (ADP) which can be found at the following website: http://gum.afpc.randolph.af.mil/cgi-bin/askafpc.cfg/php/enduser/home.php under the "secure apps" tab.

Volunteer Ops Available 15-16 July for Base Picnic

Wing Promotion Ceremony
The 50th Space Wing will hold monthly wing promotion ceremonies. These ceremonies are not to take away from squadron functions but to provide an open invitation for all to share in the recognition of wing members' career milestones. The promotion ceremony will recognize all ranks being promoted monthly. The first ceremony will be held July 1 at 3:30 p.m. in the main fitness center. Please come out and help celebrate each member's promotion! Refreshments will be served!

The Military and Family Life Consultant is available every day, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in the Chaplain's office, Bldg. 300, for drop-in appointments. Home Buying Seminar
Looking at buying a home in the next 12 months? Not sure where to go to get objective, educational information? This class explains everything you need to know from house hunting to closing costs. We've even tossed in information on buying foreclosed homes. Participants will walk away with a step-by-step guide to get started on the right path to buying the home of their dreams. The next class is scheduled for Thursday, June 24, 2-4 pm at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65.

Safe Kids 101
This "home alone" class helps to prepare kids to stay safe at home and in the community. It will be held Friday, June 25, 1-4:30 pm at the Airman & Family Readiness Center. Children must be 9-14 years of age to attend.

Resumé Basics
This class is for the person who has never done a resumé or is seeking confirmation that what they have is on the right track. Held every other month the Resumé Basics class includes not only information on format, appropriate content, and how to use the resumé but actual input from a local employer who reads resumés on a daily basis. The class is Thursday, July 8, 2 pm at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65.

Fit Family Duathlon 26 June - Register by 23 June

The Duathlon consists of a one-mile run, a 10-mile mountain bike ride, and another one-mile run. Participants will run around the running path, then race around the base perimeter, followed by another one-mile run. The race starts at 0900. You must pre-register before close of business on 23 Jun by emailing Mr. Seth Cannello at seth.cannello@schriever.af.mil.

Annual Schriever Base Picnic 16 July, 10am-2pm

All Schriever base personnel, mark your calendars for the 16th of July Base Picnic! Classic cars, bouncy castles, a Strong Man/Woman Contest, free photo booths, basketball free throw contest, caricature and balloon artists, face painters, prize drawings, vendors and sponsors, volleyball and horseshoe tournaments, a 5K Family Fun Run and water balloon toss are only a few of the activities to enjoy. On top of everything, there will be a free pulled-pork sandwich meal (while supplies last) courtesy of Texas Roadhouse!

Smooth Move/Going Overseas Briefing

Smooth Move/Going Overseas is for military members, DoD civilians, and their families. This brief is designed to help reduce the stress and confusion often associated with moving. Information provided during Smooth Move includes briefings from the Finance office, JPPSO, TRICARE, A&FRC, and Housing office. The Going Overseas briefing is included from 10:30-11:00 to address the unique needs of those PCSing to overseas locations. Individual appointments are available if you are unable to attend and need information on your new location. The class is Thursday, June 24, 8-11 am at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65.

Youth Summer Programs and Sports at Schriever

Sign your child up for Soccer Camp, Horseback Riding, Fishing, Camping, a Day at a Bronco's Training Camp, and so much more! Slots are still available for a wide range of youth activities and sports to be conducted throughout the summer months. Children of Schriever AFB employees are eligible, to include children of contractors and NAF/DoD civilians.

Free admission to museums for service members and their families

The National Endowment for the Arts initiative to offer free admission to museums for service members and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2010 includes more than 700 participating museums. The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), National Guard and Reserve members and up to five immediate family members. A 'family member' is defined as a spouse or child of the service member. For questions on particular exhibits or museums, contact the specific museum.
